The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S adaptations of the city-building game Frostpunk 2 are expected to be released in the summer of 2025, according to developer 11 Bit Studios. Currently exclusively available on PC, Frostpunk 2 debuted on September 20, 2024, to generally favorable reviews.
Originally scheduled for a multi-platform 2024 release, Frostpunk 2’s console versions were ultimately postponed until just before its PC debut. The PlayStation and Xbox adaptations were to be released the next year, in between the big content update and the Spectrum DLC, the first of the game’s three planned expansions, according to the developers at 11 Bit Studios at the time. Thanks to the city builder’s most recent roadmap update, the console release timeframe for Frostpunk 2 has been shortened after months of speculation. Furthermore, the timelines for certain other noteworthy game releases—from a big upgrade to upcoming DLCs—were also disclosed.
Frostpunk 2 Console Edition Release Date
The developers of Frostpunk 2 revealed their 2025 timeline for the game on X, confirming the much-anticipated Summer 2025 timetable for console releases. Additionally, they said that the simulation game’s next significant new upgrade would be available for free on May 8, 2025. Additionally, the Spectrum DLC’s release timeframe was set for the fall of 2025. However, it was disclosed that the second DLC, Aurora, and its unnamed follow-up expansion were still scheduled for release in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
11 Bit Studios also revealed some intriguing information about Frostpunk 2’s future in their release. As a “homage” to the order established by the first New Londoners, the update would “adjust” the city’s management, according to the announcement of the upcoming significant content drop. The first DLC, the article said, will allow the user to discover more about the city’s inhabitants in “more ways than one.” Crucially, it was said that “significant developments” will occur in Frostpunk 2 around the spring of 2025, with the possibility of anything being added on April 24, the seventh anniversary of Frostpunk in 2018.
Frostpunk 2’s achievement of recovering its full budget within three days of release was a high point, but it was quickly followed by a setback for 11 Bit Studios, which included the cancellation of another game that was still in production. Two months after the release of the Frostpunk sequel, in December 2024, the Poland-based company said that Project 8, a console-focused game, had been terminated owing to a management decision. This marked the end of a six-year project. The team will be hoping that the next Frostpunk 2 expansions and its upcoming release, The Alters, go well and improve its 2025 performance as it attempts to get back on its feet.
Frostpunk 2 is available on Steam.
