According to reports, rom a trustworthy leaker, Call of Duty 2026 could not be available on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If accurate, this may mean that Call of Duty releases for older systems would cease, with an emphasis on newer gaming platforms.
The Call of Duty series has been around for several console generations. From its first releases to the most recent, the series has been transferred to Sony and Microsoft platforms, spanning four PlayStation generations and three Xbox generations, despite having begun on the PC.
Due to technology improvements that made earlier platforms incapable of handling the demanding features of newer Call of Duty games, certain titles from this era marked the end of their release on specific device generations. For instance, Black Ops 3 was the final game to be published on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Since the PS4 and Xbox One were released in 2013, they are both more than ten years old, and their support for Call of Duty may soon come to an end.
Call of Duty 2026 could not be available on Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4, according to a new claim published on Twitter by the reliable leaker TheGhostOfHope. According to reports, the game was created by Infinity Ward and is situated in the Modern Warfare world. Should this claim prove to be accurate, Call of Duty’s compatibility with PS4 and Xbox One systems will stop in 2026.
Call of Duty 2026 Might Skip Xbox and PS4 release and Discontinuing Support for consoles
CharlieIntel, an insider, stated on Twitter that Call of Duty 2025 is anticipated to be the final game to support last-generation systems. Set in the Black Ops storyline and purportedly produced by Treyarch, the 2025 game might work similarly to Black Ops 3 in 2015, giving PS4 and Xbox One players a last Call of Duty game to play on their systems.
It is a direct successor to 2012’s Black Ops 2. It’s still unclear, though, if the game’s quality on these platforms will be comparable to that of the latest and future console generations. This is similar to BO3, where the previous generation versions were noticeably degraded, with poorer graphics and restricted access to content to guarantee the game worked properly.
EXCLUSIVE Details for Modern Warfare IV (2026):
– No Old Gen support
– Traditional UI like the older games (More traditional than BO6)
– Engine being overhauled to address MWII problems like “visual clutter” etc.
– Being developed on Dev Kits for the Next Xbox
– No “Warzone 3″… pic.twitter.com/xzmdjiDARd— Hope (@TheGhostOfHope) March 3, 2025
Although many people aren’t surprised by this circumstance because it usually occurs as a console generation comes to an end, it might still be annoying for gamers who would have to switch to the new console generation in order to enjoy their favorite series.
It is unknown, though, what the circumstances will be for Call of Duty 2026 at launch and how gamers would be impacted by the possible difficulty in accessing the game, as these are only speculations. Thankfully, there’s still plenty of time, and a lot of things might change before then because changes are so often during the video game production process.
