Godfall which was released in 2020 is a looter slasher game and widely criticized has met its fate. According to a PlayStation Lifestyle story, Counterplay Games, a firm located in California, has closed. In short Godfall Dev games has Shutdown.
According to the article, a developer at Jackalyptic Games, a studio owned by NetEase, said on LinkedIn that the company was purportedly working on an unidentified project with Counterplay Games. Counterplay Games has been working on the project for the past six months, but it was recently “disbanded,” according to the aforementioned article.
“Over the past six months or so our project at Jackalyptic has been supercharged by the world-class devs at Counterplay Games,” said the statement.
After concluding, it shared biographies of those affected by the changes. “Unfortunately, we were unable to continue our partnership into the new year and [Counterplay Games] was disbanded,” it said. Since then, all references to the closure have been removed from the post. It produced Duelyst before that game, which was shut down in 2020. According to reports, Counterplay fired several employees last March.
Godfall is still available for purchase as of this writing on websites like Steam and the Epic Games Store. Game Developer can verify that Counterplay’s website is still operational, although it doesn’t feature any employment vacancies or discuss any upcoming projects.
Godfall, the first (and only) game from Counterplay Games, came out for the PS5 and PC in 2020. Over the next few years, it was also released on the PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. The studio employed more than 140 people, according to its website. As of yet, Counterplay Games has not released an official statement on its shutdown. According to job postings from 2022, the developer has begun production on their next project, a AAA cooperative “action fantasy shooter.”
